Est. 1834
On August 9, 1834, the Pennsylvania General Assembly incorporated the Borough of Shrewsbury. The borough it created was small — about a mile long and half a mile wide, stretching along the old York–Baltimore Turnpike with the centre at the crossroads.
The village was older than the charter. Lots had been laid out along Joppa Road since 1797, and the German families who settled them called the place Strassburg. By 1830 the name Shrewsbury was back for good, and four years later the town had a charter to go with it. That is the date on the star.
