When Balthaser Faust laid out the first lots in 1797, they ran along both sides of the York–Baltimore Turnpike — German settlers even called the crossroads Strassburg, “the town by the road.” That turnpike spine became the borough incorporated on August 9, 1834 (Est. 1834), and the Main Street it created is still where Shrewsbury gathers. This design is drawn straight from those vintage storefronts.
By about 1830, English settlers had arrived and “Shrewsbury” had replaced the old German name Strassburg, but the shape of the town never changed — everything still hangs off Main Street. That’s the street these faded storefronts are pulled from, the same block that hosts the Fireman’s Carnival parade every June.
