Est. 1834
The Pennsylvania General Assembly incorporated the Borough of Shrewsbury on August 9, 1834. What it chartered was a strip of a town — roughly a mile long, half a mile wide, running along the old York–Baltimore Turnpike with its centre at the crossroads.
The place was older than the paperwork. Lots had been sold along Joppa Road since 1797, and the German families who bought them called it Strassburg, the town by the road. By 1830 Shrewsbury was the official name again. The star carries the date the town finally became one in law.
